When you put the Vantablack Sequential One on, it's a strange feeling. First off, at 45mm square and 15.5mm thick, this is a big watch. Even with the arched lugs, it definitely wears as big as it is, though the DLC titanium construction does keep the weight down. Looking at the dial is a bit disorienting on the wrist. It's the pure opposite of a skeleton. Instead of offering transparency, it offers nothingness. Right there on your wrist. One is inclined to feel like a super villain.
According to the website Netmarketshare, a massive 56% of computers still run Windows 7, with only 10.5% using Windows 10 and 11% still using Windows 8.1. This means that if you're reading this, there's a pretty good chance you haven't upgraded yet.
Initial problems such as privacy have largely been resolved. There are now plenty of options you can untick to prevent Microsoft gathering data about you and your PC, plus it's now possible to prevent non-security updates installing automatically as well. There remain one or two small issues, but having used the OS since launch and updated my precious main system recently too, I'm now confident to recommend that everyone installs it. At the very least, you should register your free upgrade by installing it, even if you revert back to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.
Alternatively, you can visit Microsoft's website and start the install process there. The key here is that you must 'upgrade' and not perform a fresh install yet in order to avoid activation issues. You'll likely need to download it first if you haven't seen any upgrade messages, but once you've upgraded your current activated copy of Windows 7 or 8.1, you'll have registered your copy of Windows 10.
There are a couple of essential steps to perform before this, though, and the first is to backup your PC. I like to assume the worst here and that is that the install process goes horribly wrong and you can't get at your data and programs. It's rare, but it has happened on more than a few people's PCs when they upgraded so don't take that risk. Backup anything essential to an external hard disk or USB flash drive. Also, make sure your OS is completely up to date. Finally, do this over a fast Internet connection as you'll likely need to download the OS and a few updates too.
When installing Windows 10, you can keep all your old programs and files. When the install is complete, everything should be as it was, except you now have Windows 10 installed - there's no need to install anything again or copy back over all your files.
You'll likely see the download window pop up and the progress of your Windows 10 download. If you don't want to keep certain items after you've upgraded, there's the option to fine tune this as well, but for now, I'd just go with the default options. Once the OS is installed, you can deselect the various data-gathering options at the start - see more about this on page 3.
There is one down side to upgrading, though, and that's Windows 10 has essentially been installed over your old copy of Windows. This does mean you can revert back if needed, but amongst other things it also means that a huge chunk of hard disk space is being wasted, housing your old OS.
Insert your USB stick, click next, and thankfully another change that Microsoft has made is that the tool now auto recognizes the correct options for your PC. As you can see here, the options are grayed out when the selection box below is ticked. If you're cr
